Old Anime that still has it charm

Old Anime that still has it charm

1.Berserk

Berserk: The badass medieval anime about Guts the swordsman. His journey starts early on with joining a mercenary group called "The Hawks" and meeting Griffith, another important character. In the series we will see Guts helping Griffith achieving his dream about ruling the world.

One of the reasons for Berserk's high spot on this list would be the incredible, unbeatable atmosphere. The soundtracks, visual surroundings, the dialogues etc. really succeeds in creating a rather dark and grim show, which is good, which is especially cool considering that i hate too grim shows...

The character depth and development is great. You'll get to know the charcters, their stories and their goals. This especially goes for the two main characters, Guts and Griffith.

Guts is a really epic character. No superpowers, no supernatural strength, no guru raised him, and despite all this, we still end up with one of the strongest, best and most fearless swordfighters in any anime so far. But Guts actually deserves these amazing fighting skills. Every episode Guts is training. Training to improve and grow strong. He has an extreme determination and along the journey we will witness him become stronger.

Guts is the ONLY character i have ever seen who has taken every single one of his opponents without any struggle (...fu. Demons don't count).
Few can take this fighter 1v1 and he deserves a spot high up in best/most badass characters of all time.

This is anime is a few steps from perfect though. The animations varies, but is mostly basic old school drawn, with some moments being better than others. Also the ending was quite annoying/bad. The manga continued, but the series stopped. The ending was actually quite random without any continuation that explained further on what was happening. At the end you will be confused, but happy for seeing one of the best animes ever!

here's the trailer :

2.Rurouni Kenshin

I finished watching this anime only a few days ago (written October 12th) and this is a great anime as expected. The protagonist Himura Kenshin is a legendary manslayer from a war in Kyoto that happened under the revolution ten years back. To repel for his sins he makes an oath never to kill again, but wanders around with a reversed blade sword (which he can't kill with) which he tries to save as many lives as he can with.

The show itself is really good. There are great fighting scenes, humor involved, drama and a pretty good storyline.
One of the downsides though is the fillers. Season 3 (after episode 62) are just fillers that has nothing to do with the mange (or at least that is what i've heard). I watched season 3 myself though and it is divided into 2 stories plus some episodes between these stories about nothing. Kinda like fillers to the fillers.

What many people recommend is watching until you reach season 3 (stop at episode 62), then continue by watching the 4 OVA's, and then read the manga from where season 2 left off (Free to read: http://www.mangareader.net/118/rurouni-kenshin.html, act 151 was the last episode in season 2) and end off with the movie.

Haven't read the manga myself, don't know if I shall yet... Have seen the whole series, the OVA's and the movie.
Great stuff, highly recommended.

its even have a dorama!

3. Full Metal Panic!

Description : Sousuke Sagara, a seventeen year old military specialist working for the secret organization MITHRIL, has been assigned to protect the latest "Whispered" candidate Kaname Chidori. To complete this task Sousuke will have to deal with enemies from his past as well as the occasional panty thief. Unfortunately for Sousuke, the toughest part of his mission isn't only protecting Miss Chidori but also getting used to living an average High School students life, no easy task for someone raised on the battlefield.

overall its a god anime with lots of action, humor, and romance

4. Hunter x Hunter

and for the closing~ Hunter x Hunter, just like Yu Yu Hakusho, is a kind of shounen you don't see now-a-days anymore. It has got its typical shounen elements (fighting, humor, training), but it is so much more mature and well structured than the colourful explosion-fest and meaningless action-oriented popular shounens today. My main complain is that Hunter x Hunter ends so suddenly it's offensive... or it would be, were it not for the OVA's continuing directly from where the series left off.

for bonus here's 0ne of the episodes of Hunterxhunter:Greed island

Onepunch Man

Genre(s): Action, Comedy, Seinen, Supernatural
Magazine: Young Jump Web Comics

QUICK REVIEWOnePunch-Man is an interesting manga that will keep you laughing at it breaks down the genre of classic Shonen manga with its simplistic main character and its overly-manly and stereotypical battle manga archetypes. When I first saw the manga I thought it would be a little hard to get into, but within a few pages I was hooked and now I can’t stop laughing at this great parody manga. A great read for any lover of old battle mangas or likes to point out those manga’s stupid points.

Characters:

Saitama (サイタマ?)

Saitama is a powerful hero who easily defeats all of his opponents with a single punch. He is a thin man in his 20s and is bald, supposedly due from his excessive training. Saitama has always been heroic, saving the innocent from the strange monsters that appear in City Z; however, he has never received any fame for it. After defeating so many without effort, he feels bored and empty, endlessly searching for opponents that will actually pose a challenge to him. When he effortlessly defeats Mosquito Girl (モスキート娘 Mosukīto Musume?), he gains a disciple, a cyborg named Genos, who witnesses his strength. Afterwards, Genos constantly annoys Saitama but helps him become a registered C-class hero at the Hero's Association. He was formerly ranked 342 but after the meteorite incident, his ranked was shot up to Rank 5, possibly going to promote to either Rank S or Rank A (as the Heroes Association assume that Genos and Metal Knight plays a better role) due to the Dragon Threat level. In return, even though he saves the city from the meteorite, due to the massive damage that was cause by the pieces from the meteorite he punches, he was partial making him a villain.
Saitama originally was an ordinary man constantly looking for a job who became depressed after many rejections. One day, Saitama saves a child from a monster. This actions spawns two major consequences: the child's powerful relative creates the Hero’s Association, and Saitama decides to become a hero like the ones from his childhood. After training every day for three years with an inhuman workout routine, he gains superhuman strength and speed but loses his hair.

Genos

Genos is a cyborg who decides to become Saitama's disciple after Saitama defeats and rescues him from Mosquito Girl. He bothers Saitama to fight him and begs to be his disciple. Saitama finally accepts Genos as his disciple after Genos accompanies him into the Hero’s Association. Genos becomes an S-class hero after getting a full score on his tests, while Saitama only earns a C-class ranking. He currently ranked 5 after the meteorite incident.
Before meeting Saitama, Genos was a normal happy boy who lived with his family. One day when Genos was 15, a crazy cyborg destroyed Genos' town, killed his family, and left Genos alive and majorly wounded. Professor Kuseno (クセーノ博士 Kusēno-hakase?), a doctor of justice, found Genos and modified him into a cyborg at Genos' request. From then on, Genos fought for justice while searching for the cyborg who destroyed his town.

ART 1/1- Clean and Nostalgic

The art in One Punch-man has such a good feel to it. You can feel the influence of manga’s like dragon ball, especially form a certain alien in the first chapter. You can’t help but be drawn it the detail Yuusuke-Sensei puts into his work and his mastery of lighting effects and overall destruction.

STORY 0.5/1- Great Parody but Somewhat Simple

ONE-Sensei has done a great job at making this manga on the surface feel like an average battle manga while also adding in all his subtle parodies. You can clearly see from his characters that they are there to draw upon a nostalgic effect of the simple, villain of the week battle manga, but in a more hyperbolic manner. ONE-Sensei also does a good job in making the jokes funny even if you have no knowledge of the parody by making the story actually entertaining with how Onepunch-Man breaks the through the routine of these types of stories.
However, this word routine is a good summary of each chapter. You will find that the story follows a very similar route every chapter, albeit with some extra details. Bad guy comes with his cliché ideology and backstory, he causes destruction, Onepunch-Man shows up and is underestimated and then promptly beats the enemy in one punch. Even so, I feel this is best for the style of this manga and a do feel the overarching story will evolve soon. I expect great things with this story.

CHARACTERS 1/1- Best Part by Far

Onepunch-Man is a great parody of a hero; he became so strong that he can defeat any villain in one punch! He’s so strong he WISHES there was someone who could challenge his power! He is a great parody on the classic hero who seems so strong that we the reader could never understand how he is ever truly opposed.
Each villain is a great parody of a classic battle manga archetype. Each villain is taken to its basic form and makes for a good parody of the genre. You will see various characters that you will feel you’ve seen before and smile as you see them here. Honestly, they are definitely one the driving points of the story. Without them there would really be no story to begin with!! I commend how well they are used in this story to drive plot.

WORLD 0.5/1- Dry, but relevant

The world of Onepunch-Man is… well… non-existent really. The world is literally a sandbox for destruction, similar to the cities in the old power rangers shows. They just break apart in the wreckage of the battles that seem to take place consonantly. The best example I can give you is that the town are named by letters (Onepunch-Man lives in X-ville or something like that.)
In saying this I would like to point out that the world is a parody too; in battle manga places get destroyed all the time, but no one really cares. They are generic and made to be destroyed like a Lego village when you are a kid. Even so, I would have like to feel as though I was drawn into the world more. ONE-Sensei is starting to build up the world so I hope there will be more engaging points in the future.

ORIGINALITY 1/1- What We All Thought in Manga Form

This story really is a good parody. It takes all our thoughts on the stupidity of some things and the nostalgia of others to make a story that we all will enjoy. It takes the ideas of others and builds upon it in a funny way. I personally enjoyed each story and how it has progressed.

BOTTOM LINE 4/5 Hilarious, Action-Packed Parody

This story is so good that I really can’t do I justice. Check it out for yourself and see how much fun you’ll have with the story. I really see this manga only going up as of this point and can’t wait for more.
